Butterfly Effect

by | Apr 16, 2023 | Sermon, Unlikely Disciple

Getting started is often the hardest part of any effort. Fortunately for Peter, when he started to follow Jesus, he found help from his brother. Influencing others to find and follow Jesus is the heart of our mission. Let’s explore the value of introducing other people to Jesus.

Read John 1:35-42 and consider reading the expanded passage from John 1:29-51.

What do you notice about the people who met Jesus, how they were introduced to him, and how they responded to meeting him?

What are some ways that our faith and Christian practice faces a danger of drifting away from a focus on Jesus?

How has knowing Jesus changed your life? What truth that Jesus speaks about you do you most need to hold onto right now?

Who has influenced you to find and follow Jesus? How did they influence you and how did key moments in your life contribute to your finding and following or recommitting to follow Jesus? Consider how you could express gratitude to those people and take a moment to thank God for the people and life events that helped you meet Jesus.

Ask Jesus to help you become more aware of people you could influence to start (or re-start) following him. This week, begin listening for others who talk about something in their life that is missing, broken, or new. Consider inviting them to, “Come sit with me,” at LifePoint Church or how you could influence them to find and follow Jesus.

Forgiveness

As God has forgiven us, we are to forgive each other. In the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, Jesus is teaching His disciples, and us by extension, that forgiveness should be in like proportion to the amount forgiven. The first servant had been forgiven all, and he...

Get Back in the Boat

Fear can creep into our lives at any time, especially when our happiness, comfort, or success is threatened. As we’ll see from Peter’s example, following Jesus doesn’t automatically eliminate our fears. However, we can also see how our fears fade into the background...
