Doubting Doubt

Doubt is the presence of uncertainty. This uncertainty can present itself at anytime, for both believers and skeptics alike. The aim for both is to consider their own positions of doubt and consider these beliefs in view of a risen Jesus.

Whether a believer or a skeptic, we all encounter doubt in God’s existence in our lives. What are the major reasons a believer can doubt their faith? What are the major reasons a skeptic might not believe in God?

When a believer encounters doubts, what kinds of things can a believer do to help regain belief?

When a skeptic encounters accounts of the “miraculous” or “divine,” what can a skeptic do to dismiss or explain such phenomena?

Many believers have relied on an “inherited faith” from their upbringing. Over time these believers experienced their faith fully and embraced it as their own often without the ability to articulate certain reasons for their faith. What can a believer do now to grapple with the legitimate questions of the skeptic? How can this exercise be beneficial to both the believer and the skeptic?

If you are a believer, consider what brought you to faith in Jesus and the evidence that has since grown your faith. What stands out as the most convincing reason for your belief? For the skeptic what doubts most keep you from believing? How are those doubts not masked articles of faith?
