A Masterpiece in Our Brokenness
A Masterpiece in Our Brokenness
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. Have you ever heard of kintsugi? It is a stunning and valuable type of traditional Japanese pottery. When a piece of pottery breaks, they don’t just brush aside the fragments. Instead, they collect the pieces and put them back together, filling the cracks with gold, silver, or another precious metal. Because every piece of pottery breaks differently, kintsugi pottery pieces are all unique.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you that You pick up our brokenness and repair us, making us even more valuable than we were before. Remind us this week that no matter who we are, or what we are experiencing, You are enough for us.
This is how I see reconciliation – taking our brokenness and laying it at the feet of God, our Creator and our Sustainer. He kneels down, picks up all our fragments, and pieces us back together. But not a quick fix with superglue. Our Father fills our weak and broken places with His strength. His gold, His light, His power and His glory shines through our brokenness and makes us worth so much more than we ever were before.
I don’t know where you are or what you’re going through, but God is working in you and through you. You are never too (fill in the blank – broken, human, “un-Christian,” far off track, stressed, crazy, etc.) to be used by Him. You are His masterpiece and to Him, your brokenness makes you even more beautiful.
