Faith in What?
Faith in What?
Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.
“Is He going to do it” puts me in a category of trying to figure out the mind of God. Who am I to figure out His plans that are far beyond human understanding? That would put me on level ground with the God of the Universe and I am far from it. God calls us to relationship, but He also calls us to humility. We need to know our place. He loves us and desires to be close to us, but His ways are far greater than ours. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
Praying is work and often an emotional investment, so of course we want the desired outcome. But we need to shift our thinking. It’s not about IS He going to do it, but CAN He do it. The first relies on outcome, the second relies on HIS POWER and OUR FAITH for the outcome. Do you see the difference?
When we pray the hard, groaning prayers… where’s our faith? Is our faith contingent on the outcome or is our faith contingent on the person of Jesus?
Lord, this life is hard. It’s painful. Even navigating life with our spouses and fellow believers is tough. But you made a way and we are surrendering to you, standing on Your promises. Thank You for being enough.
“Who can estimate the great debt we owe to suffering and pain? If not for them, we could have little capacity for many great virtues of the Christian life. Where would our faith be if not for the trials that test it; or patience, without anything to endure or experience and without tribulation to develop it?” -L.B. Cowman
The Lord KNEW we’d be exposed to insurmountable circumstances, so He provided hope through His teachings. His Word is our sword and we must believe it and use the promises of God! He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Mathew 17:20
