Love Thy Neighbor
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your should and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
OBSERVATION
God instructs his people to do two things. Love Him, and love their neighbor as themselves. God isn’t saying our literal neighbor. God is saying to love all mankind as He loves you, and you love yourself. As Christians, we are called to spread God’s message to other people, and that’s spreading His love and showing people how He loves them whether ask for it or not.
APPLICATION
This verse is so powerful in today’s world. In a world that is so divided by race, religion, political views, and so many more things, it can all be simplified in one way, “Love your neighbor.” God’s love is a cure all for a lot of things. We’re called to love everyone despite their political view, their religious practices, and their nationality. We set the example for how people should treat other people, with love, kindness, respect, and caring. If your not doing that, or you’ve recently butted heads with someone over an issue where you stand on opposite sides, reach out to them, show the love of God like he shows us.
PrayER
Lord, thank you for loving us despite our many flaws and imperfections. You really do personify what it means to love someone. Help us move forward in the world and show people the same love that You show us everyday. Help us show people the color of their skin, their political affiliation, or the religion that they practice doesn’t change the fact that we love them, because You loved us. It is your name I pray. Amen.
