Seasons of Change

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
As we get glimpses of warmer weather in between freezing cold days, my heart longs for Springtime. Yet even a simple thing like the weather shows how discontent my heart can become with my present circumstances.

Because of the weather and recently moving to a new town, I’ve been dwelling a lot on seasons of life. From one season of life to the next, the one in the distance always looks better and more exciting than the current one. Recently, as I let discontentment grow in my heart, God made it clear my perspective on seasons was not only wrong but unhealthy. I wanted to be on to the next season of life because this one was not what I had planned for myself.

But, in a way only the Holy Spirit can, He gently whispered to my heart “I have not forgotten you.”

I don’t think I would have admitted out loud that I thought God had forgotten me, but in my heart I knew that I had lost sight of a promise from the Lord.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

God began teaching me how to be thankful for the current season of life I am in. When I would begin to feel discontent or wish my life looked differently, God would say to me “What you have in this season of life is the best thing for you now. Everything you think you want now is not what’s good for you.”

Comparing your current circumstances to those of your friends or even those of someone you see on social media steals your joy. It takes your eyes off the ultimate joy – a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Lord, show us what fullness of joy looks like in our lives today. Help us find contentment in the current seasons of life You have us in.

Galatians 1:10 says “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

As the weather begins to warm and change to Spring, my current season of life may remain the same, but I know I can be filled with the fullness of joy only found in trusting in a God who holds my life in His hands. He’s in complete control, so I can soak up all God has for me in this season of life.
