“So again, I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law or by your believing what you heard? So also Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Galatians 3:5-6

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1-2

OBSERVE

Both of these passages deal with the fact that Christ came to set sinners free. In Galatians, Paul is stressing the fact that God’s people could not do anything to receive His Spirit. the only thing that they could do was believe His word, just like Abraham. In Romans, Paul writes about the freedom that comes from believing in Jesus’ saving power. The people of God can no longer be condemned for their sinds because they are covered by Christ’s righteousness.

APPLICATION

Legalism is a huge factor in the church. Many Christians believe that they have to act a certain way and live up to a “Christian standard”. The fact is that Christ already fulfilled that standard when he died on the cross doe all of us. Now, we don’t have to try to earn God’s love because we already have it. Freedom in Christ does not mean we should fo and sin all we want, but we are free to fist love him and then our obedience flow out of that love.

PrayER

God, you are incredible. You knew that i has no power to save myself from sin and death, so you sent your Son to die for me. Thank you. I pray that I would live my life knowing the truth of Your love. I pray that I would grow more and more, knowing that my salvation is secure because of you. Help me resist the temptation to earn Your love, and instead seek to obey You because You already love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Love Thy Neighbor

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your should and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."  Mark 12:30-31 OBSERVATION God instructs his people...
