In Him

In Him

For in him we live and move and exist.
Acts 17:28a

DDo you feel the pull? You are trying to stay rooted, yet your arms and legs are stretched in different directions. It could be the needs of your family. It could be job responsibilities. Personal responsibilities. Serving. Maintaining relationships. Financial responsibilities. It’s jolting, it’s tiring. You are not enough, but you need to be enough. It’s real and it’s exhausting. If you are like me, you want to let the responsibilities, the pressure, and the weight fall. But what do you do when you can’t?

I find myself turning to Him, abiding in Him. Stopping to pray. Reading scripture. Pausing to praise. Crying, “Help me!” I need HIM, and I want MORE of Him. And in the way that only Jesus can, He meets me where I am and calms and soothes my soul. “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

Our Good, Good Father provides a place of refuge and comfort for us. The burdens might not be able to dissipate, but He has the ability to hold our weary hearts. He has the ability to wipe the sweat from our brow, the tears from our face, and cradle our face in His hands and tell us, “It’s going to be okay.”

Here is the wildest thing– just as we should want His presence in all things, He wants our presence in all things! The Savior of the world smiles when His child turns and puts all their hope in Him.

Dear Lord, the pressure of life is real. Teach us to abide in You in all things, in every circumstance. Teach us to turn from the heaviness and linger in your presence.

To remind me to turn to Him, I got before Him and asked Him for statements to give me strength and paired them with scripture:

  • I am blessed. “God is able to bless you abundantly…” 2 Cor 9:8-10
  • I am loved. “Though the mountains shake, and the hill move, my unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” Isaiah 54:10
  • I can do hard things. “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.” Psalm 138:7
  • I will not fear. “Fear not, for I have redeemed you…” Isaiah 43:1

Try it! I often default to my humanness and try to do things on my own. But when I am in His Word and in His presence, I exist in Him, for Him!
