In Its Own Time

In Its Own Time

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)

Everything seems to have bloomed early this spring. The cherry blossoms appeared overnight, their delicate, pale pink blossoms dotting the landscape and ushering in spring. But not our cherry tree. No, our cherry tree is still really ugly – dull, bare brown branches snaking up to the sky with barely a hint of a bloom emerging on the spindly limbs. Its time has not yet come. Yet we know in a few weeks it will transform into a breathtakingly gorgeous tree, teeming with huge fuschia-pink blossoms, a beauty standing proudly amongst the other green leaves.

Does your life feel dull and ugly right now? Do you look around and see others who seem to have blossomed on time, while you are stuck in the monotony of your season? Lately I have felt like my cherry tree, longing for spring but feeling the weight of winter.

We’ve been through a really hard season as a family. It’s felt dark and hopeless most days. I pray for an end, I pray for light, I pray for answers – but they are not here yet. I feel stuck. Our time has not yet come. And it’s hard to be stuck in winter when you want spring so badly.

Lord God, I thank you for your perfect timing. Help me to be patient and to trust you, even when it’s hard to see you at work. Thank you for the hope of springtime and new life after a cold, bleak winter.

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. That is truth, and I believe it. The problem is that my time does not equal God’s time. I try to hurry God along, because I’m impatient and think I know better than Him. I want my spring now, but its time has not yet come.

God has a scope of work that He is accomplishing in this world, and it doesn’t operate on my timetable. That’s because God has eternity in mind – not just my one moment in time – but eternity for every human heart.   And that is worth waiting for.

If It Seems Slow, Wait For It

If It Seems Slow, Wait For It I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. And the Lord answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he...
