Seize the Opportunity
Seize the Opportunity
What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.
I Corinthians 2:9 (ESV)
About two years ago, my aunt called me ecstatically, sharing that she won a $10 ticket to see the famous show, Hamilton, after entering her name in the Broadway Lottery every day for two years!
After hearing her excitement, I called my then boyfriend (now husband) and told him that we should enter. We both put our names in the lottery, expecting nothing to come from it since it had taken my aunt so long to win. The next morning, I received an email that we won tickets to see The Lion King! I was shocked!
The catch with the Broadway Lottery is that you have to go to New York and see the show the same day you win. I called Ryan and we talked through every scenario of how we could get to New York by 7 pm (it was a school and work night), but we ended up turning the offer down because it was just too spontaneous.
Dear God, thank you for giving our lives purpose. You have something amazing in store for us every day… help us not to miss out on it. Thank you that even when we get distracted and stray from You, You pull us back in with your amazing grace.
When I think about this story in relation to my faith, the verse above reminds me that God has once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in store for us every day: opportunities to love those around us, extend grace, share the Gospel and so much more! We have the choice to lean into His amazing plans or turn down the offer and miss out. I can live with my regrets of missing that show, but I don’t want to look back on my life and regret missing an opportunity that God placed in front of me.
I challenge you this week to seize the opportunities God sets in your life. It may look like signing up to serve somewhere, sharing a kind word with a stranger or simply taking a moment of silence to thank God for all He’s done. Whatever it is, commit to taking a step and be amazed at what happens!
