What I Need
What I Need
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:9 (ESV)
Ive not been sleeping well lately. Lots of things on my mind combined with the need for a new pillow and a minor cough (not Covid, fortunately) have led to restless nights and tired days. Last evening, I had a rare few hours by myself and curled up in my favorite chair to read. But my eyes kept closing and my head kept nodding as my body sought to reclaim some of the sleep I lacked.
At first, I fought against sleep, wanting to finish my book. But then, I realized that my body was giving me an important message. I needed sleep. Finally, I closed my eyes and gave my weary body and mind what it was so desperately needing.
Why is it so hard sometimes to figure out what I need and allow those needs to be met?
It seems obvious, but it’s an easy bad habit to fall into. When I don’t slow down and pay attention to what my body, mind or spirit needs, I end up exhausted and cranky. My guess is that I’m not alone.
Thank you, heavenly Father, for being our generous supply. Help us to slow down and listen to our bodies, our minds and our spirits so we can ask you for exactly what we need today..
Fortunately, we serve a loving, faithful and generous God, who longs to meet our needs. When we are weary, He lifts up our heads. When we are feeling sad and lonely, He is our comfort and peace. When we are discouraged, He is our joy and strength. We simply need to ask Him.
What do you need today? Encouragement? Rest? Spiritual nourishment? Hope? Peace? Ask God to help you pay attention to what you need and to show you clearly how He will supply it.
