A Masterpiece With A Mighty Namesake

Watching the summer Olympics is a family event in our home. We love huddling together on the couch, cheering on the athletes, watching them push themselves to their personal best. As the commentator explains what they have overcome to get to this point, we sit on the other side of the screen in awe of their story. It is, in turns, inspiring, captivating and heart breaking: these are real people who have devoted their lives to this competition on a global scale.

One of my favorite moments from this Olympics happened when U.S. gymnast Grace McCallum finished competing and ran to her teammates to await her score. With the world anxiously holding their breath along with her, someone yelled, “Grace, you are an Olympian!”

Tears streamed down my face as this young girl was seen for who she is. No matter her scores, she worked hard to be considered an Olympian and, in that moment, she was fully recognized as one. Doesn’t it feel good to be recognized for who you are?

As Believers, we are recognized as something far greater without the grueling years of training and preparation. We are recognized as children of God! We bear the image of the Master and Creator of ALL things, and you are gifted that name. Olympians may be considered the greatest of all time based on how they perform, but your Creator thinks you are the greatest YOU of all time based on what HE did.

I imagine it must feel incredible to be honored and revered all over the world for your physical achievements. By earthly standards, there might not be a higher recognition. Yet, by Kingdom standards, there is. As a Believer in Jesus, you are identified, recognized and beloved as a son or daughter of the ONE true KING! You are redeemed and made new! You are restored! You are a masterpiece!

Sometimes I do not feel like a masterpiece. But I believe in His Word and it says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago” (Eph 2:10).

You are who God says you are. He did the work. He has redeemed every part of you. Listen as your Father says to your heart, “________, you are my child. I know every part of you, and you are loved by Me.”

You carry a Mighty Namesake. Live it and may He get the glory through you.

God has much to say about who we are as His children.  In addition to Esphesians 2:10,  2 Corinthians 4:7-12 details how we carry the treasure of the Holy Spirit within us.
